Limehouse local neighbourhood hidden gems
Limehouse, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London, has enjoyed the benefits of urban regeneration over the last few decades. Marlin Apartments Limehouse, located in the neighbourhood for over 15 years, is well positioned to take in all the hidden gems of this quirky neighbourhood, so that guests can live like a local and enjoy all that East London has to offer.
Here’s some of our team member’s hidden gem recommendations:
Troxy
An East London icon that has seen many a revival, the Troxy is about as East London as it comes. The Troxy hosts a range of musical acts in their beautiful art deco building throughout the year. It is also a popular events venue for awards ceremonies and gala dinners, providing a spectacular setting.
Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen & Restaurant
Rockstar celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has a branch of his successful Bread Street Kitchen & Bar at Limehouse Basin Marina, an easy 10 minute walk from Marlin. The restaurant is located right on the River Thames, and we recommend trying Gordon’s iconic Beef Wellington.
Limehouse Basin Marina
A 5 minute stroll from Marlin Limehouse will bring you to Limehouse Basin Marina. The marina is perfect for an early evening riverside stroll, away from the hustle and bustle, leading to riverside paths that enjoy panoramic city skyline views.
Two Magpies Café
Not so much a hidden gem as a next-door neighbour! We love Two Magpies Café for their fantastic coffee, delicious brunch and lunch options, and their super friendly service. The Eggs Benedict are some of the best we’ve ever tasted!
The Craft Beer Co.
Just a stone’s throw from Marlin Limehouse is this little delight, offering multiple varieties of beer on tap. Our suggestion is to try a pint of the Kent Craft Pale Ale. The pub also runs a regular Quiz Night every Sunday at 7pm, and offers a food menu with some modern twists on pub classics.

London Museum Docklands
With free entry and open daily from 10am to 5pm, London Museum Docklands offers history buffs the chance to step into 400 years of Docklands history in their beautiful riverside setting. With plenty of activities for children, the museum is a great day out for families. Just jump on the DLR at Limehouse station and alight at West India Quay.
Escape London
Just a 5 minute walk from Marlin Apartments Limehouse is Escape London, one of the capital’s best escape room experiences. Find clues, solve logic puzzles, break the codes and find the key to your freedom.
The Grapes Pub
One of the oldest pubs in London, The Grapes pub overlooks the River Thames and boasts Charles Dickens as a former patron. The Grapes is located just a 15 minute stroll from Marlin Limehouse, and open daily from 12 noon, so is a great option for lunch or dinner. We recommend the fish and chips – The Grapes are famous for it!
