Things to Do in Waterloo
Whether you are staying with us for business or pleasure there is plenty to do in the area of Waterloo.
The area around London’s Waterloo boasts some of the city’s most iconic landmarks such as the London Eye and The London Dungeon. Just across Westminster Bridge lies Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and 10 Downing Street, home of the British Prime Minister.
Westminster Abbey, a place steeped in British history, is not to be missed. The Abbey, which still functions as a working church, has hosted every coronation since 1066 AD. It is also the final resting place for many of Britain’s greatest kings, queens, scientists, writers, and thinkers. The Abbey provides many guided tours which are an excellent way to unravel the rich historical tapestry of this famous site.
Visit the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth and learn about the lives of those affected by war, soldiers and civilians alike. The museum explores modern conflict from the First World War to the present day. And if you’re particularly interested in the Second World War make sure to plan a visit to the Churchill War Rooms, the underground bunker where Britain’s leaders met in secret to lead their country to victory.
Eat and drink at The Artworks, a little bit off the beaten track in Elephant & Castle. Built from re-purposed shipping containers, The Artworks is a bustling and diverse hub of food and drink outlets. Head to The Marquis of Granby, a stone’s throw from Westminster Abbey and a popular spot for MPs, for a pint of ale and a warm pie.
