Things to Do in Stratford
The district of Stratford in East London has experienced a new lease of life since hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has welcomed over 16 million visitors to date and hosts a variety of sporting and cultural events throughout the year. Cycle in the tracks of Olympic gold medallists in the velodrome or go for a swim in London’s state of the art Aquatics Centre. Thrill seekers will not want to miss out on the ArcelorMittal Orbit, a tower with breath-taking views of the city and a scream inducing ride down the world’s tallest tunnel slide. Young children will enjoy the Tumbling Bay Adventure Playground located at the north end of the park.
If you’re in the mood for some retail therapy look no further than Westfield Stratford City, a huge shopping centre situated just east of the Olympic Park. And if you’re visiting in the summer months, head to Roof East, an outdoor cinema on top of a multi-storey car park. Enjoy a long summer evening watching your favourite movie framed by the sparkling city skyline.
While Stratford has experienced an extraordinary regeneration in recent years, there are still many cosy traditional pubs to be found in the area. Enjoy a drink and a piping hot pie in the cosy atmosphere of King Edward VII where you will be welcomed by the warm glow of open fires. Alternatively try the Darkhorse, a modern European restaurant and bar specialising in Italian and Spanish fare or right at the door steps of Stratford Apartments lies one of our favourite bars The Railway Tavern.
