Things to Do in London Bridge

Southwark, the historical borough situated just minutes from London Bridge, is home to some of the capital’s most iconic sights and structures. London’s first theatres were built here in the 16th century and Shakespeare’s plays were first performed here. Today the rebuilt Shakespeare’s Globe is one of the most popular theatres in London and world renowned productions of Shakespeare are performed there every day.

Just around the corner from the Globe lies one of the world’s most popular art galleries - the Tate Modern. Located in a former power station, the building itself is worth a visit. The huge, industrial structure holds one of the largest collections of modern and contemporary art in the world. There is free entry to the permanent collection which includes work by Picasso, Warhol, and Dali.

A very recent and impressive addition to the Southwark skyline is The Shard. Standing 310 metres tall at its highest point, The Shard not only boasts London’s highest view but also its highest bar which offers a 360-degree view of the city. At £30 for an adult and £25 for a child, the view from London’s tallest skyscraper does not come cheap. But just across the Thames it is possible to experience a similar view for free at the Sky Garden - just make sure to book your tickets well in advance.

Located in the shadow of The Shard, Borough Market has existed in some shape or form for the past 1000 years. Wander through the bustling stalls, enjoy the riot of colours and smells and sample some of the delicious food and drink from artisan producers. And if you’re looking for a drink in a traditional English pub, Southwark is full of cosy inns and taverns. Try The Anchor Tap where you can enjoy a drink before a blazing open fire and dark oak interiors.

Marlin Empire Square is closely situated near the famous London Bridge and only a 5 minute walk from the Shard. With a short distance walk to Borough Market you have everything on your doorstep from bars, restaurants and food markets.
